Hello,I am Jerry Lee Newbold age 41 and this is my story. First of all, I am a father of 3 young boys who need their father or I would not be doing this. I am in dire need a heart transplant! I’ve been battling heart failure since the age of 27 when my heart became enlarged after a traumatic event. Just a few years later, at the age of 33 I had to get a pacemaker/defibrillator to keep my heart functioning. This past January, I started having chest pain caused from a massive heart attack. While in the cath lab my heart stopped requiring CPR and other life saving measures. I ended up intubated living on a ventilator and Impella Heart Pump. I was hospitalized at Baptist Integris Hospital for 2 months. That’s when my struggle to live began. Currently, I spend my days struggling to breath and simply managing life. I see the Advanced Cardiac Heart Failure team at Baptist Integris and hope to soon be placed on the heart transplant list. Until then, myself and my cardiac team is working on approval for a LVAD which will help me live until a heart becomes available. Recently, I was advised that without a heart transplant or LVAD my life expectancy is <2 years, with those years being very rough. I watched both of my parents struggle and die at young ages from heart failure and I pray everyday that I have a chance to live for my boys. After a year of no income, because I am no longer able to work I finally was approved for disability, ultimately causing me to no longer qualify for Medicaid. I so desperately need help raising money to help pay for my medical bills, medications, and transportation to and from all my medical appointments.
