September 24, 2025 – It’s been 14 years since the transplant. Jesse is currently on the liver transplant list at Lahey in Burlington, MA, but currently deactivated due to maintaining a stable level of health. This means, he won’t receive a transplant offer currently, but if his liver health declines, he can be activated and offered a liver at anytime.

June 28, 2022 – It’s been 11 years since the transplant. Jesse and wife, Ashley now live in Winthrop, ME along with their 3 children, Weldon (10), Lily Ann (7), and James (6 months).

Several of the last 11 years have been great with little physical limitations. The transplanted liver did quite well for a while. However, the original disease that attacked and killed the first liver has returned and has done extensive damage to the transplanted liver. PSC, is again stricturing the biliary system within Jesse’s transplanted liver. He has undergone multiple ERCPs to dilate the primary bile duct. Now in the process of PTC procedures, whereby bile ducts are accessed by poking directly into the liver from the abdomen. Depending on how long this therapy can help and other factors, Jesse will likely need a second liver transplant in the coming years.

Jesse Brooks, a resident of Greenville, SC, needs your help. Jesse learned of his first disease, Ulcerative Colitis, when he was 16. The doctor at Mayo Clinic first wanted to remove his colon, but thankfully chemotherapy helped and that operation wasn’t necessary. Over the years, Jesse’s disease has caused another disease, Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, which is causing progressive deterioration in his overall health. Now, at age twenty-seven, Jesse’s condition has steadily worsened and his physicians have determined that he will need a liver transplant to survive. At this point Jesse can no longer work and is #2 on the liver transplant list at MUSC, Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston, SC. His health insurance will cover $200,000 maximum. The cost for the transplant is estimated to be $300,000 to $500,000.

UPDATE: Jesse received his transplant June 20, 2011. He was in the hospital one week, then discharged to the “transplant hotel”. It is just 10 minutes from MUSC. He gets blood drawn several times a week and has the home health care nurse visit daily to check on his progress. He will be there until he is allowed to go home to Greenville.
