Jim Needs Our Help!

After struggling with unexplained fevers and extreme exhaustion in early 2016, Jim Madson was diagnosed with MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndromes), a bone marrow cancer in which the bone marrow fails to make enough healthy red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. This cancer has left him very weak and forced him to stop working. Since his diagnosis, he has undergone chemotherapy treatments and countless blood and platelet transfusions, all culminating in a bone marrow transplant on October 17, 2016. The cost of a transplant can be overwhelming and he needs our help.

Jim and Susan, his wife of 32 years, share a home in Spring Hill, Kansas with their dog, Louie. Skilled in carpentry, Jim creates beautiful custom furniture and owned a furniture store with his family for many years. Jim looks forward to being healthy enough to play with his dog and four grandchildren and getting back to his activities and hobbies.

Transplants are life-saving but financially draining. Transplantation, follow-up medications and treatments are very expensive. Even with his Medicare coverage, there are co-pays and deductibles, medications, and clinic visits. Additionally, Jim is unable to work during his treatment and recovery and Susan must reduce her work hours to help care for her husband.

To help with the financial burden of Jim’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years.
