Giving hearts needed for our dad who is awaiting one.

Our dad Jimmy Rios has been approved to receive a heart transplant. It’s been almost two years since he underwent open heart surgery for an LVAD implant. Prior to this his heart was only functioning at 8% and he was referred to hospice care.

We’re asking family and friends to join us in fundraising for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to help with the critical expenses our dad will face immediately following his surgery. They will mostly consist of rehabilitation costs where he is required to stay for a minimum of eight weeks near the transplant center following his discharge to receive aftercare.

Our dad has remained positive and strong despite his limitations while living on an LVAD. He’s a single father and is determined to fight for his life and for a chance to see us both grow into adulthood. The LVAD can prolong his life for up to ten years, but with a transplant he has a chance to live even longer and we desperately need your help.

Although he does have health insurance, many transplant expenses are surprisingly not covered, such as the monthly anti-rejection medications he will need to take for the life of his new heart. He has been told to anticipate thousands of dollars per month just for the medication alone.

Donations to Help Hope Live can help ease the financial burden of undergoing the transplant and allow our dad to focus on not only a healthy recovery, but his parental duties and long life ahead with us.
