Joseph White

As you may already know I broke my neck when I was 16 years old, a junior at La Salle Institute in Troy, NY, in 1997. I have since moved to Greeley Colorado and earned my Bachelors degree in Philosophy. In 2007 family and friends supported my week long evaluation at Project Walk in California and my program in Colorado with the SCI Recovery Project (SCIRP). After just a few months of work with SCIRP I had some kidney trouble that landed me in the hospital for just over 3 months. I was in a hospital bed most of that time and lost a lot of what I had gained. I’ve begun working with the trainers at SCIRP again and am excited with my progress so far. I have been able to stop using medications I had been on for 12 years and have gained control of my body in a way I really didn’t think was possible.

I have only come a short way on where I see my overall recovery going but with your support I hope to continue on my way to walking and I have set an open ended challenge to myself: to work as hard as I can with my trainers and push my recovery to it’s limit.

I hope to, with the always generous support of family, friends and community, achieve the goals I have for myself. I cannot thank everyone enough for the support exhibited since my injury, seemingly a lifetime ago.
