Family and friends of John “Butch” Staffieri are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.

Butch has battled cardiac issues throughout his adult life. A massive heart attack in 2003 led to a quadruple bypass in 2004, but the issues persisted, and he continued to have heart attacks, numerous stents, and continued chest pains. Although his heart was big in spirit and full of love, it was failing his body. Toward the end of 2021 we were told there was nothing else that could be done surgically and in March 2022 we started exploring options with the Mayo Clinic and they approved and placed him on the heart transplant list in early April 2022.

Butch received his new heart on May 17, 2022!

This all happened so quickly, faster than we had imagined. Although he does have health insurance, there are co-pays, medical equipment, lodging to temporarily relocate to Jacksonville to be near the Mayo Clinic while he does cardiac rehabilitation, travel and lodging expenses for return visits and check-ups. These costs add up quickly and it’s with a very humbled heart that we’re reaching out to the community we love so much.

We have chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors.
