John Needs Our Help!

My husband, John Morby, is a 58-year-old man who is very Ill. Though John has been struggling with liver disease for many years, he only recently was diagnosed in 2015. A liver transplant is his only hope of living more than the estimated 18 months doctors have given him.

John grew up in Ogden, Utah and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School. He went on to Weber State College and earned a degree in marketing, where he spent a great deal of his career in the forest products industry.

John developed an interest in fitness and sports and competed in several marathons, triathlons, and climbed Mount Rainier twice. He coached little league basketball and baseball. And most recently was a Cub Scout leader.

John is now mentoring his own 12-year-old son Charlie in fitness and nutrition. He envisions one day seeing Charlie compete at the Junior High, High School, and maybe even College level. But more than that John hopes to witness his son grow into a happy, healthy man. Together, John and his family are committed to seeing him through this transplant.

Transplants are lifesaving procedures but the protocols are not only physically demanding, but also financially draining. Even with insurance, John is facing very high expenses. He cannot be placed on the transplant list until all sources of infection are gone, which include getting his teeth repaired. The cost is approximately $7,000 dollars for this dental work alone. Though he has Medicare coverage, he faces additional costs such as: co-pays, deductibles, pre-transplant medications, and a lifetime of anti-rejection drugs post-transplant. He needs to be at the hospital for lab work and clinic visits four days a week. The costs could be as high as $25,000! John needs our help!

To help with the financial burden of uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign has been established in honor of John Morby with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to help patients and families in need for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law and are held by Help Hope Live in the Southwest Liver Transplant Regional Restricted Fund in honor of John Morby.
