As many of you already know, for the past few years, our father, John, has been courageously and positively battling end-stage renal disease. Since April of 2011, he has been on dialysis three days per week, five hours a day. Dialysis is the one thing that keeps him alive; even though at times it seems to make him feel worse. Though dialysis is strenuous and wearing on Dad’s body, he never ceases to get up and go into the business he continues to run every day.

Since the time Dad was placed on the active transplant list, he has received several calls that a matching organ was available to him. Unfortunately, these opportunities turned out to be less than perfect matches. When all has looked hopeless for us and our family, Dad has stayed strong through it all.

A wonderful situation has now arisen. Jonathan Ogilvie, a dear family friend, has offered to be Dad’s living donor. Jonathan has completed all of his medical evaluations and has been found to be a perfect match – he is Dad’s saving grace. Currently Dad is scheduled for transplant on January 14, 2014, at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle.

Due to the extraordinary expense of transplantation, funding this life-saving operation is a monumental task. Even with insurance, Dad will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, travel and temporary relocation housing near to the transplant center and the costly immunosuppressant medications that he will need to take for the rest of his life (at an estimated initial cost of between $10,000 and $20,000). This presents a challenge Dad and the family cannot meet without your help.
