On October 22, 2023, Jonathan experienced a life-altering car accident just under a mile from his home. While making a left turn, he was T-boned by another vehicle at a speed of 45mph. The accident left him with a range of injuries, with the most severe being damage to his spine. Jonathan was rushed to Chippenham Hospital, where he underwent a critical spinal fusion and decompression surgery. While this surgery successfully prevented further damage, it couldn’t reverse the injury to his spinal cord at the C6-C7 level, resulting in paralysis from the chest down.

Following more than two weeks in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Jonathan is now prepared to transition to an acute inpatient physical rehabilitation center. Here, he will embark on an intensive journey of therapy aimed at adapting to his new circumstances and, hopefully, regaining some level of function.

Before this life-changing event, Jonathan was a dedicated stay-at-home dad to his 16-month-old son and was eagerly preparing to commence an online bachelor’s degree program in accounting on November 1st. He had a passion for hiking, a love for music, and cherished the time he spent with his family. Despite the profound physical challenges that lie ahead, Jonathan remains resolute in his determination to lead a full and productive life. He eagerly anticipates learning how to adapt to life after his injury and looks forward to reuniting with his family, resuming his hobbies, and pursuing his educational goals.

The financial burden associated with Jonathan’s care and recovery is substantial. Even with insurance, we are confronted with numerous out-of-pocket expenses. These include the need for modifications to our home, a vehicle to accommodate his wheelchair, ongoing rehabilitation therapy, and the potential requirement for full-time home health care.
