My family and I have been dealing with a disease that has affected my Father. He was diagnosed with Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in March 2020. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a disease that causes scarring (fibrosis) of the lungs. The word “idiopathic” means it has no known cause. Scarring causes stiffness in the lungs and makes it difficult to breathe.

Lung damage from IPF is irreversible and progressive, meaning it gets worse over time. The pulmonologists have given my father medication to slow the process of the Fibrosis, however, it has not slowed it enough and his lungs have deteriorated. He is now in need of a bilateral Lung Transplant.

My Dad was the head of the household and due to this disease, he has not been able to work. It’s been really hard on both my parents financially, physically, and emotionally. One of the most difficult things I had to hear was that my Dad is in need of a lung transplant. He started the first step of getting a full workup to be on the transplant list.

Unfortunately, we were hit with the news that in order for him to be on the transplant list he would also need to have excess funds to cover relocation expenses and medication for when it is time for his transplant. This is where this fundraiser comes in. It is so difficult to do this and ask for help as I know what a hard year it has been for everyone with everything going on.
