Family and friends of Jose Garnica are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.

A little about Jose Garnica.
Everyone knows him by, Paul Garnica. Paul just celebrated his 66th birthday on August 13, 2024 while in recovery from receiving his new liver on August 3, 2024. His wife of 45 years, Rachel Garnica and their four children, Eli, Justin, Felicia and Kathryn haver been by his side every step of the way. As well as his eight grandchildren. Many friends and family members have come together in prayer of healing and strength for Paul and his family. Paul is a well known man through many people. He worked for Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Plainview, Texas for 20 years. It is there he created many friendships that have lasted over three decades. He loved playing golf and going out fishing anytime he got the chance. He and his wife retired and sought after their dream of owning a restaurant. In 2005 they moved to a small town most have never heard of, Memphis, TX. There they opened up a small Tex-Mex Café, called Gloria’s Café. They served the loving people of Memphis for 15 years, until Covid hit them in 2020. After letting go of the restaurant they enjoyed their time together, traveling to visit their children, grandchildren, grandpuppy and family.
In 2021, Paul was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. Most cases of cirrhosis are caused by alcohol consumption but not in Paul’s case. He couldn’t tell you the last time he had a drink. After receiving this diagnosis, his outlook on life had changed. He looked towards God more heavily and cherished his family even more. He and his wife Rachel, traveled to Amarillo, TX, Lubbock, TX, and Dallas, TX visiting doctors and trying to find answers on how to help with his diagnosis. Over time the cirrhosis continued to get worse, creating high levels of ammonia in his blood stream. Paul, his wife and children spent many days and nights in and out of the hospital until the cirrhosis started shutting down his kidney. He was then airlifted from Amarillo to Dallas to be placed on dialysis and awaited on if he was a candidate for a liver transplant. A true miracle occurred when he was told that he would receive a new liver within days of arriving to Dallas. Paul and his family are so gracious of the love, prayers and support that they have received from their family and friends. Their hearts go out to the donor that granted Paul a second chance at life. A second chance at fulfilling God’s works and valuing every moment that he gets with his loved ones. He is looking forward to going golfing and fishing again, but this time he has his grandchildren to take with him. He plans on living, loving, laughing and praising God more than ever before. Paul has a new birthday, August 3,2024.
