Joshua’s Story

My husband, Joshua is 36-year-old and has been a Type 1 diabetic for the last 19 years. We have one child, T.J, who is nine. In recent years, due to his illness, Josh has become legally blind and is unable to enjoy the freedom of his motorcycle without special glasses. His only chance at a healthy life is to have a kidney/pancreas transplant.

Josh has been evaluated at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, WA and was found to be an excellent candidate for a kidney/pancreas transplant.

Due to his illness, he is unable to continue working on motorcycles at Boise Cycle LLC., and has been finding small jobs here and there to bring in extra income. Josh would like so much to be able to get back to work and be able to once again enjoy our important family activities. My husband is a very loving person who is always willing to help whether it is wrenching on bikes, trucks, cars or putting on the gloves and hauling hay for his family.

Although Josh has Medicare, he will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctors’ visits, travel to and from the transplant center and the costly immunosuppressant medications he will have to take for the rest of his life. This is a challenge we cannot meet alone.

To assist with financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Joshua’s honor has been established HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for more than 30 years.
