Joyce Bourque

Dear Friends, thanks to the amazing generosity of so many people, I received the miracle of a kidney transplant in April of 2018. This life-saving gift came after seven years on dialysis and nearly ten years after I was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure. I am so, so grateful, and I wish that was the end of my story, but after almost two years without problems, my body is now rejecting that kidney. I need your help again!

Kidney disease leads to many other medical complications and hospitalizations. As I am undergoing tests and as a plan to deal with this new challenge is crafted by my medical team, I’m facing a lot of uncertainty, but trying to keep my spirits up. There is so much I want to live for –my three children and my nine grandchildren (the newest is about to be born tomorrow, Jan 19!!). I want to be able to give back for all the blessings I’ve received. But the cost of staying alive is very high. Despite having insurance, many of my medical needs are not covered and must be paid out-of-pocket. On top of the on-going expenses I’ve been paying, now there will be many new ones.

Our mom, Joyce, has always been and continues to be a devoted mother. She has always been there for us whether it was cheering us on in our numerous sporting activities or by being a sounding board for our everyday issues. She was team mother, team manager, General Manager, incorporator, cheerleader, fundraiser, babysitter, first-aid supplier and trip organizer on many of our teams – “Everything, but the pom-poms, Mom”. She is still devoted to us and now to our own kids as well.
