Family and friends of Joyce Lustig are raising money through the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund expenses associated with her pancreas transplantation.

I have struggled with Type 1 Diabetes since 1984. I am being blessed for all my hard work. In July I was given this transplant option for treatment because of the progression of this disease. Those of you who have this disease know how expensive it is. So, I am asking for help to get through the cost of this transplant. Insurance will not pay for everything. Today’s insurance coverage is what it is.

I recently had to retire from a very dear to my heart group because of this disease. For the last 15 years I have been keeping the gymnastics program for the Chequamegon School District funded through fundraising and Coaching. I have two daughters that were very good in this sport and if I didn’t fund raise and help coach all these years the program would have dissolved. So I know first hand how hard it is to raise money for a cause. So, I am very thankful for this group.

My family is my life. I want to be able to do so many things with them. With my hard work at controlling my diabetes I have been able to be involved with so many extra circulars that my daughters loved. I have coached their little league soft ball teams, I was their Girl Scout leader for four years, and of coarse gymnastics. I have been able to go to their volleyball games, Cross Country meets, Track meets, Band Concerts, Plays, and Forensic competitions. I was able to be there for them. That is still my want in life. I want to be there and share life with my family. My oldest graduated from college this past summer. She is a Vet Tech at Arbor Vita Vet Clinic. My youngest has one more year of college left. She is studying Photography. I have many goals and the only way I will be able to achieve them is if I get to live a lot longer. This transplant will give me a better chance at living longer.

I look forward to my daughters weddings, grandchildren, my nieces and nephew’s weddings and children. Just everything that has to do with my family.
