Judy Griffin

Dear Friends and Family,

I’m writing to let you know about a groundbreaking new treatment at the University of Wisconsin’s Tactile Communication and Neurorehabilitation Laboratory (TCNL) which has had extremely positive results for dramatic symptom improvement for individuals like my dear mother, Judy Griffin who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis.

As many of you know, prior to her 1979 MS diagnosis, Judy lived a very active life — a life full of physical activity which included tennis, hiking, dance and running.
In spite of her illness Judy courageously chose to have children and even with her physical limitations she was an active participant in their lives — attending their school and sporting activities. Additionally, she assisted in the care of her aging parents, and when her father died, Judy moved her mom into her home which caused her mother’s hospice nurse to remark, “I have never seen any disabled person being a caregiver for their aging parent.”
When Judy was first diagnosed her doctor said to her “you don’t get to choose whether you have this or not, you only get to choose how you deal with it.” She only had to hear that one time as this is how she has lived her life. At present time, Judy is unable to use her legs and has minimal use of arms and hands therefore, she is in a wheelchair.
Even with insurance, Judy has many uninsured illness-related expenses such as: home healthcare, insurance, rehab, durable medical equipment (a new wheelchair and standing frame) and medications. Now she has this incredible opportunity to participate in a stage III clinical trial at the University of Wisconsin (see My “News & Events for additional details), but to do so she will have to incur large uninsured travel and relocation expenses to and from Wisconsin for herself and her caregiver over the course of this study & help; this entails 3 one-week stays in Madison.
To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Judy’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant and catastrophic illness community for nearly 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by Help Hope Live in the Southwest Catastrophic Illness Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for illness-related expenses only.
