Sometimes life’s little speed bumps get in the way of your grand plans. My grand plans have centered on being a mom, a wife, a daughter, etc. I was diagnosed with lupus in 2007 while pregnant with our daughter. I was ruled to be permanently disabled in 2012 and being diagnosed with Charcot Foot in 2022 was definitely not on my bingo card.

I’ve learned to adjust my sails. In December 2022, my thoughtful husband worked to get me a red scooter for Christmas. At first this was just temporary assistance. As I always will need to avoid putting weight on my foot, my red scooter is now essential.

Even though the scooter breaks down into four parts, two are too heavy for me to lift on my own. Recently, my husband was out grocery shopping and saw a man with a scooter like mine. He offered to help the man load the scooter into the back of his SUV. The man was excited because his new lift allowed him to load his scooter without my husband’s help. The man told my husband the lift had changed his life! He said the lift had only cost him $1,000 – most likely because he was a veteran.

However, when we researched the cost of a lift it was five times that amount. With a daughter leaving for college, it is not in our family budget with only one working family member. Getting a lift for my SUV would allow me to make doctor’s appointments on my own. As well as undertake activities I haven’t been able to do in years.

We have gathered $200, leaving $4,800 to be raised for a lift. Like the man at the grocery store, a lift for my suv would be life changing. Please help me with this goal through a tax-deductible donation and by sharing my message.
