Family and friends of Kaitlyn Asbury Joseph are raising money to pay for uninsured medical expenses associated with her transplantation.

It’s been a while since I’ve visited this site. The last time I used this fundraising site, it was 2013 and I had found out I was in End Stage Renal Disease and needed a kidney transplant. I was a sophomore in college at the time, and my doctors were unable to figure out why this happened to me. I ended up having my kidney transplant in 10/2013 and my grandmother was a donor that was a part of a 4 way kidney swap.

Fast forward to 01/2019, I developed a really bad kidney infection that started out as a UTI. Unfortunately, I am asymptomatic when I have UTI’s, so I didn’t know anything was wrong until it was too late. This infection caused my transplanted kidney to go into rejection and I was hospitalized for a total of 2 weeks to try and save my kidney. The treatments were unsuccessful and I developed severe migraines and high blood pressure. In the midst of all of this, I was trying to start a new career as a nurse by going to nursing school. I developed this infection the night before my first day of nursing school. I had to defer to the next semester. I also got married during this time. It’s 04/2020 now, and my kidney function has been deteriorating since that initial infection. My nephrologist (kidney physician) has told me I have to have another transplant.

When we started this fundraising page 7 years ago, we raised $8,765 (which is showing in my current goal) and we appreciated that so much. Those funds helped with my medical expenses and with the planning of my surgery. We are starting over this time around!
