Karen Konopka

Karen needs help to raise funds to help assist in the ability to keep Ruby’s training current with focused training as a SD. She has been trained for specific tasks she needs to perform daily and to keep that training consistent.

Karen was a senior in college when she was involved in a motor vehicle accident resulting in a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Although she was able to complete her degree program, she struggled because the effects of the TBI exacerbated her post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This also made it difficult to maintain employment after college. Additionally, she began experiencing low blood sugars associated with hypoglycemia.

Karen has obtained a golden doodle, Ruby, and after completing the process of training her as a service dog to alert her to dropping blood sugars and to assist with the continuing symptoms of TBI and PTSD. Training for blood sugar alerts, in particular, is a complicated process and Karen is excited to have the opportunity to work with professional service dog trainers to complete Ruby’s training. Unfortunately, this training is not financially feasible for Karen, so she is requesting assistance to cover the fees. Ruby has already been a blessing to Karen, helping her to be more confident in her home and community. Continuing the upkeep of training will allow Ruby to provide consistent support to Karen and continue to improve her quality of life.
