Karen Rydstrom

Hello everyone, my name is Karen Rydstrom. I’m 54 yrs old and in need of a double lung transplant.

It all started about 13 yrs ago. I would have trouble breathing with everything I did. I just chalked it up to my job or jobs. I would get sick and go to the dr and be diagnosed with bronchitis and was put on inhalers and a nebulizer. About 3 yrs ago I had been hospitalized for my breathing and had finally been referred to a pulmonary Dr. He did some testing and told me I only had 26% lung function. He put me on 2 liters of Oxygen. I then told him I wanted to see about a lung transplant as I had to much left to live for.

I have 14 grandkids, 3 beautiful daughters and an amazing boyfriend. He then referred me to University of Minnesota. I made my first trip to meet the Dr. with one of my daughters. We went over the paperwork my pulmonary Dr. sent them. They scheduled me to go back for a week of intense testing. After that they called my and told me I was a good candidate for a double Lung Transplant. They listed me in July of 2017.

I’m still waiting. I then asked them to refer me to University of Nebraska. I met with them in Sept. and had a few things to do to get listed. In Oct. they declined to list me as they needed a few more things done. I have now completed them so next meeting to see if they list me is the 21st of Feb. I’m praying all is good so I can be listed there as well. I have done a few fundraisers with the help of some amazing friends and family.
