Karter Edwards

Hey there!

I’m Lawreece Edwards – mother of the cheery 9 year old boy you see here, Karter, who completely enjoys this journey called life. His diagnoses are severe in that he has a wheelchair and suffers Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy and has a host of other ailments. He has no voluntary mobility and is fully assisted by myself. That includes feeding, incontinent care, dressing, transferring and simply full-on managing! I don’t have any additional help in the matter so it’s just the two of us 🙂

What I have learned in this soon-to-be-decade is that life is so precious and as we often take things for granted like being able to chew and swallow food and/or wake up and put our feet on the floor, someone else may be wishing to have the ability to do so!

It puts things into perspective for me daily and through that, I am able to advocate as best as I can so that Karter experiences the best quality of life. Karter is a “rolling” miracle and there is a lesson to be learned from it by us all. His contagious smile is undeniable. He affords me an opportunity to be selfless and patient in this hustle and bustle of a world.

As I petition your help in the purchasing of a wheelchair accessible van for Karter, I earnestly implore you to consider our little family in this case of necessity. Families that purchase these vans don’t get them because they want them, they get them because they need them. I would like this van to mobilize Karter to and from therapies, doctor’s visits, school, church and the like. Without a vehicle, we use public transportation and/or take rides from those persons that have the car space to allow me to break the wheelchair down and store. This is a job on my back in and of itself yet and still, I get the job done.

Your help will be extremely helpful as Karter is continuing to get bigger and less easy to carry. I have saved up a small savings because I do believe help is given to those that help themselves. Nevertheless I admit with your help, I can accomplish this heartfelt goal.
