You Can Help Make a Difference

I never could have imagined that my life would transform in the way that it did… but I also never could’ve known how much it could teach me to learn, grow, change my goals, and better myself.

In March of 2017, I fell from a neighbor’s balcony and hit my back and head. I crushed my T10 vertebrae in my spinal cord and could not move from the waist down. After spending three and a half weeks in an ICU, I was transported to Craig Hospital in Colorado for months of rehabilitation and surgeries.

At Craig, I did everything from relearn how to swallow to learn how to work my new wheelchair. I was faced with the challenge of building back up my upper body muscles after being on bedrest so that I could wheel myself around. While this was beyond important for me to do, all I truly wanted – and still want today – was to get back on my feet. I was told that this may never happen to me, that we could never truly know. These words tried to break me, but they also pushed my competitive spirit to do what it always wants to do – prove that I could.

Now I am out of the hospital and back in California to continue this long recovery. I want more than anything to walk again and to run again. I want to continue my passions for yoga and pilates, to hike again, and I want to keep doing physical therapies to work towards this never-ending dream of movement.
