Dear Friends and Family,

MARCH 26, 2021, 11:25 P.M.
Since my last update many things have changed. I no longer do hemo dialysis, I am on manual peritoneal Dialysis 4 times a day . I have been in the hospital several times, including a trip in June where I had double pneumonia and a lot of fluid in my lungs. I’m still dealing with the problems from that one. I also had skin cancer removed from my scalp. Wear a hat people, lots of staples and stitches.

The reason for my post is to give the latest in my journey for transplant. In November 2020 I had a stress test done as part of the evaluation. In February 2021 I revived a call saying there was a abnormality. On March 5th I had a heart cath and other test done. The result of cath was I have 3 major blockages in my arteries. Heart is fine, but the recommendation of the doctor and the medical team is for me to have a bypass.
We are still waiting on the results from my other testing before scheduling heart surgery. Once I am cleared for surgery, and recovered, I will be back on the road to hopefully getting on transplant list.
With this surgery pending and other testing I am trying to prepare mentally ,physically and financially for this long and very daunting road ahead.

Kathy is a courageous wife, mother and for 14 years,was an employee at Hastings, and is now employed at Fancy’s Day Spa. For the last 23 years she has been battling with Lupus and its’ many medical complications, while also helping her husband who battles MS.

Kathy’s Lupus has caused her to live with deteriorating kidney function. She was blessed to have a transplant in 2015 ,in witch her mother was her donor. Unfortunately she is now is end stage renal failure again As a result, she is on dialysis three times a day. Kathy has been told that her only chance at a healthy life is to have a kidney transplant.

Through all this Kathy has been determined to live life to the fullest. She was given a terminal diagnosis when her son was three-years-old and remained determined to see Blaen graduate high school in 2012 then college in 2016. Seeing her son reach milestones in his life has kept Kathy going — her strength and giving nature is a testament to her will to live.

No matter how bad Kathy’s day may be, she continues to place others needs before hers. She and her husband have organized countless community benefits for the ill and needy. One of these events, an annual toy drive now in its 19th year, has provided Christmas gifts to children who would not have otherwise had a Christmas. Now it is time for her community to give back.

Funding this life-saving operation will be a monumental task. Even with insurance, Kathy will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, travel and temporary relocation to the transplant center and the costly immunosuppressant medications that she will need to take for the rest of her life. This presents a financial challenge that Kathy cannot meet alone.
