Dear Friends and Family,

Many of you already know that Kayla Vess needs a lifesaving double lung transplant to stay alive. Kayla is working as a secretary at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO. She has also just earned her degree to work as a Physical Therapist Assistant.

Kayla was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when she was 3 months old, and has been battling this disease for the last 29 years. Kayla’s health has declined to the point that her doctors at University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill have told us that her only option is a life-saving lung transplant. Kayla will eventually have to take a leave of absence from her job to travel to North Carolina where she will have her double lung transplant.

Due to financial needs of having a transplant, many of Kayla’s expenses are not covered by her insurance and must be paid out of pocket. Some of these expenses are co-pays, deductibles, travel to and from the transplant center, relocation prior to transplant and she will need to stay near the hospital for at least 3 months after transplant. In addition, Kayla will be on a lifetime of anti-rejection medications. Fundraising is essential to help Kayla’s transplant be a success.

In order to ease this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Kayla’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by Help Hope Live in the Midwest/West Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered for transplant-related expenses only.
