Keenan Causey

Keenan Causey is a 62-year-old, loving husband of 36 years, father of three adult children, and
a very active grandpa to two grandkids.

For ten years, Keenan has been in and out of kidney
failure. Keenan has been managing his condition by undergoing dialysis for the last three years, balanced with diet and exercise. He is approved for a kidney transplant and is now awaiting a suitable donor.

Keenan is very active in his life. He recently retired to focus on his health and spend time with
his family. Keenan can often be found playing with his grandkids, volunteering with AA, or on the golf course. He loves sparking conversations with random strangers; he has a welcoming and non-judgmental presence. Despite the challenges he has faced, Keenan remains optimistic
about life.

They say you know that pink clouds do happen so be ready. In 2014, despite being three years
sober, Keenan faced a major heart attack which required a triple bypass surgery. Shortly after,
his first grandson was born, but then his kidneys failed for the first time due to a high dosage of contrast used to check his heart. He underwent intense dialysis for two years and managed to improve to stage 2 kidney failure, allowing him to get off dialysis. However, tragedy struck when his three-year-old grandson passed away unexpectedly, leading Keenan to struggle with grief and guilt. His granddaughter became his source of strength and soon after another wonderful grandson. Subsequently, in 2021, Keenan found himself in kidney failure again, compounded by his weight gain due to neglecting his health in grief.

Now, Keenan is on aggressive dialysis and has fully retired, facing the end of his fight. His
determination to live stems from his granddaughter’s support and his desire to inspire others
“that not everything is a death sentence”. He is a changed man and was determined to work
harder than ever on his program. He underwent significant lifestyle changes, including losing
over 100 pounds, to be eligible for a kidney transplant. However, his day-to-day life is still
greatly affected by kidney failure, requiring strict dietary restrictions, meticulous planning of time, and limited social activities. He greatly missed being able to love on his grandkids.

The average cost of a kidney transplant is $442,500, with Medicaid covering at most 60%.
Additionally, Keenan requires a panniculectomy before the transplant, leading to significant
out-of-pocket expenses. His family cannot afford this, and fundraising is crucial to support his
journey towards better health.

Keenan hopes that the transplant will grant him more time with his family, allow him to resume
