Hi, my name is Keith Hills. I was born and raised here in the Salt Lake Valley and for the last 15 years, my wife Darlene and I have lived in South Jordan. We have 3 children and 8 grandchildren and are looking forward to welcoming our 1st great-grandson in March. In March 2002 I was diagnosed with congenital heart failure which has required a quadruple by-pass, multiple stents and now a defibrillator/pacemaker. I was told that my only chance for a long and healthy life was to have a heart transplant. I was placed on the active transplant waiting list at the University of Utah Medical Center on Dec 10th and on December 19th I was admitted to the hospital and am now awaiting a transplant. Dear Friends,

Hi, my name is Kristine Marshall and I am a neighbor and friend of Keith and Darlene Hills. I am very happy to report that on Saturday, January 5, 2013 Keith received his “gift of life” – a heart transplant! The transplant surgery began at 11 p.m. Saturday evening and was completed around 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The surgery was successful and Keith is doing very well. It is a wonderful blessing that Keith has received his transplant so quickly after entering the hospital and for that we are all so grateful.

Keith and Darlene have asked that I help them with their fundraising efforts and it is an honor to help them in this effort. Even with insurance, Keith is facing many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, rehab therapy and the costly immunosuppressant medications that he will now have to take for the rest of his life.

To help with these expenses, Keith has applied to receive assistance from the HelpHOPELive Southwest Heart Transplant Regional Restricted Fund. HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF) is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant and catastrophic injury communities for nearly 30 years.
