Kelley Sycamore

Kelley Sycamore is a devoted wife, a loving mother of three, and a woman whose quiet strength has deeply impacted everyone who knows her. Married to her best friend and biggest supporter, Colby Sycamore, Kelley is the heart of a joyful, close-knit family that includes their three children—Kara (8), Olivia (6), and Tucker (4). Together, Kelley and Colby created a life full of adventure, laughter, and love.

Before illness struck, Kelley was a vibrant force—she homeschooled her children, taught swing dancing, and loved exploring the outdoors. She found joy in hiking, backpacking, camping, and trying new restaurants with Colby on their weekly “mystery dates,” where they’d scratch off an idea from a date-night poster and make a memory together. They’d completed 16 out of 100 dates before life took an unexpected turn.

In 2022, Kelley was diagnosed with acute kidney failure caused by a rare autoimmune disease. Everything changed overnight. What followed was a long and frightening hospital stay, a dramatic shift in daily life, and a battle that continues to this day. Kelley returned home with limited kidney function and a strict medication regimen that drastically weakened her immune system. Eventually, her kidney numbers declined again, and she was placed on the transplant list. Just as hope began to rise, Kelley experienced a recurrence of her autoimmune disease and had to begin dialysis, postponing transplant eligibility by at least another six months.

Amid all of this, Colby has been nothing short of extraordinary. He has not only held the family together emotionally, but also stepped into the overwhelming role of full-time caregiver, medical coordinator, household manager, and dad. From tracking medications and dialysis schedules to preparing meals that meet Kelley’s strict dietary needs and keeping life as stable as possible for the kids, Colby’s love shows up in every detail. While Kelley battles physically, Colby quietly fights alongside her—providing calm, strength, and tireless devotion, even in the hardest moments.

Kelley’s disease has brought immense challenges. Her energy is often drained. She lives with constant pain, especially in her legs due to swelling, and struggles with brain fog and exhaustion. Their once-adventurous family life is now marked by caution, medical routines, and the simple joy of cuddling together on the couch. Weekly date nights have been replaced by evenings spent managing symptoms or planning medical care. Even visits from their large, loving circle of extended family and friends have to be avoided due to Kelley’s fragile immune system.

And yet—Kelley remains an incredible woman, wife, and mother. Even in her most difficult days, she shows up for her kids and husband with love, gentleness, and warmth. Though she can no longer homeschool or take them hiking, she still gives them what matters most: her presence, her comfort, and her heart.

Kelley’s story is not just about struggle. It’s also about the life-saving impact of organ, blood, and plasma donation. These medical miracles have saved her life multiple times and given her more precious time with her family. For families like the Sycamores, these donations are not just procedures—they are hope, healing, and life itself.

Though their lives have been permanently changed, Kelley and Colby remain deeply rooted in love and resilience. They are holding fast to hope for a transplant, a return to more joyful days, and the chance to pick up where they left off—exploring the world, one memory at a time.

This is Kelley’s journey. It is still unfolding—one dialysis session, one quiet cuddle, one act of courage at a time. And through it all, her strength and Colby’s unwavering love continue to light the way forward.
