My Body Is Broken, But With Your Help, I Will Overcome

On December 10, 2020, at 37 years old, I was involved in a catastrophic car accident. While my resulting spinal cord injury has caused quadriplegia, miraculously, my mental faculties seem mostly to have survived a traumatic brain injury caused by sustaining a head injury that required 29 staples. I have been told by doctors and surgeons that I only survived the accident because of my age and physical condition. I would like to believe that I survived the accident because I can still be a contributing member of society.

I was a carpenter before the accident. I was in a carpentry business with my dad. I used to love building decks in particular. Knowing that people would gather for family dinners, entertaining, and so forth on something I built was rewarding and motivated me to build it to the best of my ability. Even after my accident, I strive to make the most of my recovery through my rehabilitation efforts. But I need your help.

My dad is nearing completion of a wheelchair ramp. We have an immediate need for a newer used handicap accessible van with an XT conversion. There will be many needs going forward, but up until now, I could not get to and from appointments without calling an ambulance. With the ramp complete, I would not require an ambulance, but am limited to transportation to/from medical appointments only. Having our own accessible van would be huge.
