Kiel Britton is raising money to pay for medical expenses associated with his kidney transplant, more specifically prescription costs.

Kiel received his kidney transplant in July 2006, and has been extremely healthy ever since. Kiel is active in the Craftsbury, Vermont community; he volunteers his time as one of the town’s fire department lieutenants, and is always willing to help where it’s needed. Kiel works for a local business, delivering building supplies to job sites in northern Vermont.

Despite working over 40 hours a week, paying for prescription anti-rejection medications is financially crippling. Kiel is no longer eligible for Medicare, as he has exceeded the three year eligibility cap after receiving a transplant. His private insurance has a high deductible, and his salary is just enough that he doesn’t qualify for state Medicaid assistance. For the foreseeable future paying for prescriptions will remain an issue, as Kiel will need to take these anti-rejection medications for the rest of his life.

Every bit of monetary assistance would help Kiel tremendously in keeping healthy and continuing to be an asset to his community.

Our current goal is $2k, which will help meet the insurance deductible of $6k. Our long tern goal is $10k, which will help in the years ahead. For those who don’t know – the cost for a 90 day supply of Kiel’s meds is $2600. Our insurance kicks in and will pay for his meds once we meet the $6k deductable (each year).

Kiel has chosen to fundraise with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF) in part because HelpHOPELive provides both tax-deductibility and fiscal accountability to his contributors. Contributors can be sure that funds contributed will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses.

Please note, any contribution made by check or money order can take from 10-14 days to process from when received. Donations made online by credit or debit card are processed once a week (usually on Mondays). To help pay for administrative cost of maintaining this campaign, HelpHOPELive receives a small percentage of each donation (4% for payments by check/money order; 7% for credit/debit card transactions).

The money that gets donated to Kiel’s fundraising campaign gets deposited into a regional restricted fund and is held free of charge until it is requested. There is no interest accumulated on the money held, it is also not invested into any other program or service.
