Kimberlin Ladd

Kim is a 62 year old Mother, Grammy and recently a great Grammy who has worked in banking for the last 35 years. She was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease in March of 2013 and has struggled with this disease every day since. Kim was approved for a double lung transplant and was put on the transplant list on July 18th 2025. Kim is a fiercely independent person who struggles asking for help but this disease has given her no choice.

She has lived her life being there for her family and this has made that so hard for her. She loves to travel and go to her grandkids school functions. She used to spend her summers on the lake and cooking out. She would always help cook and set up for birthday parties, holidays and family get togethers. As you can see, her life has always revolved around her family.

Since this diagnosis Kim has had to put her entire life on the back burner and focus on keeping herself healthy. She is exhausted most days and struggles with doing everyday household chores, like dishes, vacuuming, moping and bathing her dogs. All while pulling her oxygen tube around the entire house (lightheartedly nicknamed her umbilical cord). She has to worry about dragging her oxygen tank everywhere she goes and making sure the battery will stay charged on her portable concentrator long enough for her to complete her outing. Her portable concentrator isn’t actually enough oxygen for her to be on for long periods of time but sometimes its her only option. She isn’t able to spend much time outside in heat or even when its cold. Both of these extreme temperatures drop her oxygen level and make it hard to breath just walking from her car to the building where she works.

Kim is fundraising for the cost of relocating closer to the transplant team, as she will need to stay nearby for up to 3 months or until the Dr. releases her, even then she will not be able to go back to work for at least 9 months to a year. Kim and her husband work full time and both will be on a decreased pay during their time off work, so just paying their every day bills will be strenuous. She could be responsible for her post anti-rejection transplant medications which alone are approximately $2,500.00 a month. Her housing while she is relocated will be roughly $2,000.00 to $3,000.00 a month. If the surgery happens after the first of the year she could also be responsible for her out of pocket cost with her insurance, which is $4,750.00. This alone does not include, gas, food and just everyday expenses.

Kim is looking forward to her life after the transplant so she will be free from her oxygen and be able to breath on her own again. She is so excited not to be limited to doing everything she was able to do before, with her grand kids. She is looking forward to spending time with them outside playing and going to their functions again without having to worry about how long the walk is or if she can stay the entire time. She looks forward to living her full and vibrant life again.
