Dear Friends of Kim,

Whether we know each other or not, we all share a common bond in our love and affection for Kim Munoz. Most of you have known her since she was a little girl growing up on Kwajalein. She went to school with you or babysat your kids. Maybe you knew her family – after all, everyone knows everyone on Kwaj! Some of you may have met Kim while she was working at Disney World, or have become friends with her in her current home of San Antonio. You may not even know her, perhaps her story has touched you in some way and you have been compelled to do something. In any case, we are so glad you are here now. You see, as much as she would like to deny it, Kim needs our help.

Kim found her calling when she became a mother, but she also found out something else. During her second pregnancy, Kim was diagnosed with an uncommon blood disorder and Budd Chiari Syndrome, an extremely rare liver disease. These conditions not only require her to take medications for the rest of her life, but also put her fate in the hands of someone she will never even know. Kim’s only chance for long term survival is a full liver transplant from an organ donor.

Kim has been suffering since 2008 and waiting for her chance at a new liver since May 25, 2010. Many, many trips to the doctors and hospital later and the costly medical bills are taking a toll on her family.

To help ease the burden no family can bear alone, we are putting together this fundraising effort. The liver transplant itself is a very expensive procedure and sadly, not all of the costs will be covered by insurance. With lots of appointments, procedures and medications in her future, Kim will certainly need our help.

That’s where this fundraising campaign comes in to play. With the help of HelpHOPELive we will raise money in Kim’s honor. This nonprofit organization has been helping families like the Munozs’ for nearly than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, and held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Central Liver Transplant Fund and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
