Kizzy Kelly

Kizzy Kelly is a single mom of two teens who is a true “Momma Bear” in every sense. She has not only been a fierce protector and fighter as she raises her children, but now she faces an even greater fight for her health and her future as she awaits the call for a kidney transplant.

As a diabetic, her kidneys shutdown in 2017. She has been on dialysis since then. Her transplant will set her free from the many hours each week hooked to a machine, improve her overall health, and allow her to enjoy a more active, consistent, and involved lifestyle with her church, family and friends. It will also enable her to begin work full time as the dialysis treatment hours made that too difficult.

Kizzy has no immediate family who can care for her, and she will need lengthy support immediately after her surgery. She will incur the cost of lodging near the transplant center where she is required to stay for a minimum of thirty days after her discharge. She will also hire a full time Aide to take care of her physical needs and drive her to follow-up doctor appointments while there.

Even though Kizzy has health insurance, many expenses associated with a transplant are not covered, such as the anti-rejection medicines she will have to take for the life of her new kidney. She was told these monthly prescriptions alone can be upwards of $2000 per month.
