Koy Range

Koy is a 25-year-old post-graduate looking to start the next chapter in his life by receiving a lung transplant. He has dealt with his interstitial lung disease since birth, and has struggled with many diagnosis’s such as Pulmonary Interstitial Glycogenosis (PIG), Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID), and Bronchiectasis. Outside of being in-and-out of the hospital, until his 20s, he had lived a relatively “normal” life for someone with his condition. After multiple lung collapses and numerous infections, Koy and his doctors decided it was time to consider getting a transplant.

Koy has been following up with the Cleveland Clinic since 2023, and until recently, was under the impression it would be many years until it was necessary. Following his recent follow-up in February of 2026, it seems the process will be sped up. Koy is currently waiting for March to be seen again to then be approved to be added to the transplant list. In the coming months, Koy hopes to raise money to help alleviate some of the stress during his recovery process, so he can focus on his health.

Since his introduction to the Cleveland Clinic, Koy has had multiple infections that have deteriorated his health physically, which in turn has impacted his mental health. Koy has a hard time keeping up with his friends, who like to do physical activities, such as playing basketball or going for walks around their neighborhood and nearby areas. He also has a hard time doing simple errands like taking out the trash or going to the store, as he quickly experiences shortness of breath and oxygen desaturation. All these factors, combined, have made it hard for him to feel like the same person he was just a few years ago.

In his free time Koy enjoys spending time with his family. He especially loves spending time with his sister, nieces, and nephews. He has found it more difficult to play with his nieces and nephews due to his deteriorating health, which has also impacted his mental health. When he is not spending time with family, he enjoys playing video games, as it helps him stay in touch with friends from high school and college without being a physical tax on him. When he feels healthy enough, Koy also enjoys going to the gym, but it has proved more challenging as of late.

Koy is hopeful that his lung transplant will grant him the ability to start the next chapter in his life, where he feels as though he can finally start the life he deserves. He is very hopeful that after the transplant he can dive deeper into his career and consider the possibility of starting his own family.

Family and friends of Koy Range are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a lung transplant. Koy has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax-deductible for contributors and will be used only to cover medical and related expenses. These expenses will cover new medications, which can be quite costly, relocation costs, and many others. As his primary support specialist, and single parent, his father Rob Range will not be able to work full-time during Koy’s recovery.
