Krishna Pacifici

Most who know our family know that Krishna received a kidney transplant from his mom when he was 21 years old. That kidney served him well through college and graduate school, through the early days of his career and our marriage, and through the first years of Samson’s and Leo’s lives. Since the beginning of 2017, Krishna’s kidney function has been dangerously low and declining. Krishna began at-home dialysis this month as he waits for another kidney transplant.

After several family and friends so generously came forward to be tested to donate with no success, we moved forward with the paired donation process. We (Krishna and Lara) have been active on the National Kidney Foundation paired donation registry since October 2018. When appropriate matches are found, Lara will donate a kidney to an anonymous recipient, and Krishna will receive a kidney from an anonymous donor.

Krishna’s medical expenses have steadily increased through the past two years. In 2018, we paid approximately $15,000 out of pocket for medical expenses (specialist visits, medication, supplies, surgeries, hospitalizations), and we expect our 2019 expenses to be even higher. A transplant alone is estimated to be $15,000 – $20,000 out of pocket.

We are fortunate to have the strong support of our family and friends. Your love and positive presence in our lives has the greatest influence on our navigation of this challenging chapter.
