Dear Friends, Family and Community,

As you may already know on Nov. 29, 2014, our son and brother, Kyle Craig, suffered a life-changing spinal cord injury as a result of a devastating fall from his deck at his home in D.C., which occurred shortly after Kyle was mugged on his way home from work. He currently is in the National Rehab Hospital where he receives intensive rehab therapy. When discharged from NRH, we plan to bring him to Pittsburgh to UPMC Mercy Hospital to be closer to family to continue his rehabilitation.

Kyle is quadriplegia, paralyzed from his chest down with limited use of his arms. He faces a very long road of recovery ahead of him. Yet, through this horrendous ordeal he has maintained his wonderful sense of humor and a strong determination to move forward with a goal to get as independent as possible in this ‘new normal’ condition.

The expenses of a spinal cord injury are astronomical. Even with insurance, there are many costs that are not covered. Some of these are home modifications, a handicap accessible vehicle, adaptive equipment, additional rehabilitative therapy, monthly medical supplies, home health care, and much more. The CDC estimates that an individual living with a spinal cord injury will have between $500,000 and $3 million dollars in lifetime out-of-pocket expenses.

To help with the financial burden of Kyle’s uninsured expenses a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Mid-Atlantic Catastrophic Injury Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for injury-related expenses only.
