LaMar Creamer

In 2008, LaMar and Tami Creamer were living in Guam (where he was working as a project manager for the LDS Church) when LaMar’s health took an unexpected and drastic turn. It was determined they would need to leave the beautiful island and return to the States for medical care. After further evaluation, LaMar was diagnosed with sarcoidosis, an autoimmune disease which had progressed to pulmonary fibrosis, causing severe scarring of his lungs. LaMar went from living a happy, healthy life to being put on long-term disability and full time oxygen. With Tami by his side, he fought hard to regain his health. They decided to relocate to St. George, Utah, hoping the lower elevation and improved air quality would help heal LaMar’s lungs. 

Determined to wean himself off the oxygen, LaMar forced himself to walk daily until he was able to go without it. Little by little, his health progressed over the next couple of years, and they were able to return to serving their church and community, and even take occasional trips to see family and friends when able. Things were going well for the Creamers until a few years ago, when LaMar’s health once again took a turn. He began showing new and unfamiliar symptoms, including confusion, low energy, loss of appetite and swelling. 

They visited several doctors, but tests came back inconclusive. His health continued to decline, as they searched prayerfully for answers. In October 2025 those answers came when LaMar received a diagnosis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease with advanced cirrhosis. They were stunned to learn that LaMar was in liver failure and, without a transplant, had less than 2 years to live. Though they were grateful to finally have answers, this news came as a complete shock!

As LaMar’s liver function continued to decline, fluid began to build up in his body, requiring a procedure called paracentesis or an “abdominal tap” which drained the fluid via a large hollow needle/catheter inserted through the abdomen to relieve pain and pressure on his lungs and internal organs. He has gone through this procedure multiple times now, as his liver is no longer able to do its job. 

LaMar was recently approved for a new liver, and placed on the transplant list at Intermountain Medical Center (IMC) in Murray, Utah! They were told he is a prime candidate for transplant due to his blood type, and his healthy heart and kidneys. LaMar and Tami were encouraged to hear that his chances of regaining his health are high with this potential life-saving gift of a new liver. They were also surprised to learn that the average wait at IMC for a new liver is only 22 days! 

With grateful hearts and spinning heads, Tami and LaMar are taking the next step to procure this precious gift of life. While they realize how blessed they are to have this opportunity that many do not, they are also aware of the long road ahead and, though they are fortunate to have medical insurance, the expense of the organ transplant and medical care will be significant. Tami has also had to push pause on things and quit working for the time being, in order to care for LaMar full-time. 

Many people have been on the receiving end of the selfless service and influence LaMar and Tami Creamer have generously given their country, church, and community—both locally and worldwide—throughout their lives. LaMar has served in the military and scouting programs, as well as church leadership positions. Tami has shared her musical talents, playing piano for local theater companies, choirs, and renowned artists, as well as writing beautiful music, including “I Know That My Savior Loves Me,” which will soon be published in the LDS Church’s new Hymnbook and sung by congregants worldwide. 

Their positive influence is far-reaching, as evidenced by all who have reached out to them with love, support, and prayers on their behalf, asking how they can best support them during this difficult time. LaMar and Tami were thrilled to learn of Help Hope Live, a nonprofit national organization dedicated to raising money for medical bills and expenses through crowdfunding.

Life has a way of throwing curveballs, and you never know when it will be your turn to navigate an unexpected trial. But there is comfort in knowing you don’t have to do it alone. Tami and LaMar are so grateful for the love and support of friends, family, and this amazing community, who are always eager to give back.
