Larry Carter

Dear Friends and Family,

Many of you know our son Larry Carter. At 21, Larry was well on his way into adulthood. He has attended college at Lord Fairfax, working and taking care of his one year old son, Donovan and has a baby girl due in February. Larry is always there as a caring person to everyone in his life.

On December 11, 2010, Larry was in a terrible car accident and his neck was broken and he has spinal cord injuries. He was flown to INOVA Hospital, Fairfax, where he underwent surgery to reconstruct his neck injuries (C6). The doctors have said he may never walk again. Larry is determined to prove them wrong.

On December 29 Larry was transferred to Kennedy Krieger Institute, International Center for Spinal Cord Injury in Baltimore. He is currently undergoing extensive and intensive physical rehabilitation. Every day Larry demonstrates extraordinary courage and declares he will reach deep within himself to fight his way back and be everything he can be.

Larry has a long road ahead and faces a tremendous financial burden. The average first year of expenses for someone with his extent of injury will be well over $300,000. Although Larry has medical insurance, there are many expenses that will need to be paid for out of pocket. Some of these include home modifications, purchasing a modified vehicle, physical and occupational therapy sessions, home health care, deductibles and co-pays. This is a challenge we can not meet alone.

Many of you have asked if there is any way to help Larry and indeed there is. To help offset these overwhelming expenses, a fund-raising campaign has been established in Larry’s honor through the Catastrophic Injury Program of HelpHOPELive. HelpHOPELive is a nonprofit organization that has been serving the transplant and catastrophic injury community for over 27 years. All contributions are tax-deductible and are administered for injury-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution today.
