Nice Deep Breaths is What Larry Looks Forward Too!

My husband Larry’s earliest memories of being unable to breathe go back to his childhood Asthma and the home remedy of waking up with his head over a pot of steaming Vicks and water. He did not outgrow his Asthma and made bad choices with smoking for many years, In addition, his chosen profession caused him to work in areas with dirty air. All of this led to COPD and Emphysema. Even though he is a non-smoker today and retired, his condition has come to the point that he cannot live without continuous oxygen, many medications and inhalers. He has recently been listed for a lung transplant. We are reaching out to family, friends and our community to help with fundraising to make this life changing procedure possible.

Larry has been a resident of Las Vegas, NV since his early teenage years. His family relocated to this desert community from his native Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1971. The city has grown tremendously over the past forty plus years. Larry was always an active and adventurous person and never let his lung issues stop him from enjoying the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved water sports and motorcycles. He was an excellent baseball and softball player, however, even though he still follows these activities as a spectator he is no longer able to enjoy all that the region offers due to his failing lungs. He looks forward to being able to interact more freely with his grand children of which he has three grandsons and three granddaughters.

While Larry has insurance, Nevada does not have a lung transplant center in the state. Therefore, we will be required to relocate in Palo Alto, CA for this transplant. This relocation will be for approximately three months. According to Help Hope Live, a non-profit transplant fund raising organization, the first year costs for a transplant average over 650K. In addition, he will be on several medications for the rest of his life. Many of the expenses associated with pre and post transplant needs are not covered by insurance.
