Our pal Laurie has showed up for us in countless ways. Now it’s time for us to show up for her! Donations to Help Hope Live will help Laurie continue her physical rehabilitation and pay for COBRA premiums, home modifications, medical supplies, and medication not covered by insurance.

In January 2023, Laurie underwent surgery to remove a cyst from her spinal cord. Shortly after, she developed complications and spent two weeks in the ICU.

She then spent a month in the hospital recovering from two additional spine and brain procedures. Ultimately, she sustained an incomplete T2 spinal cord injury and is now paralyzed from the chest down.

Laurie spent six weeks in an inpatient rehabilitation facility, working daily to regain strength and function in her legs. Her husband, Nate, is her primary caregiver, helping her with activities of daily living. Together, Laurie and Nate have had to adapt to a new way of life, and she continues to make progress in physical therapy.

As the first year after a spinal cord injury is the most important, it is critical that Laurie receives as much physical therapy as possible. Donations to Help Hope Live will help Laurie continue her rehabilitation and cover the significant out-of-pocket costs that she faces.

Despite the physical challenges, Laurie is determined to gain more independence and mobility. She looks forward to traveling again, discovering new hobbies, and hopefully a return to walking.
