Help Lesa Breathe Easier: Supporting Her Journey to a Lung Transplant

For years, Lesa Butcher was the person others could count on. She worked hard, devoted herself to her family, and built a career as a General Manager at KFC, where she spent years working long hours and taking care of the people around her. Lesa has always been someone who puts others before herself and finds a way to keep going, even when life becomes difficult.

Today, Lesa is facing a challenge that she cannot overcome through determination alone.

Lesa is now fully disabled and living with severe lung disease that has dramatically changed her everyday life. She relies on supplemental oxygen to help her breathe, and activities that most of us rarely think twice about can leave her struggling to catch her breath. The independence and active lifestyle she once enjoyed have been replaced by the constant physical strain of simply trying to breathe.

But Lesa has hope: a lung transplant could give her the opportunity to breathe freely again and experience a much better quality of life.

Lesa Has Done Everything Asked of Her

Throughout this journey, Lesa has remained committed to doing everything within her control to prepare for transplant and improve her health. She has followed her doctors’ instructions, watched her diet, made the recommended lifestyle changes, and continued doing everything possible to give herself the best chance at a successful transplant.

Anyone who knows Lesa knows that giving up simply isn’t who she is.

She continues to face each day with determination, positivity, and hope. Now she needs her family, friends, and community to stand beside her.

Why Lesa Needs Our Help

A lung transplant is about much more than the surgery itself. The transplant journey can bring significant expenses that insurance does not fully cover.

Family and friends of Lesa are raising funds with Help Hope Live to assist with uninsured medical and related expenses associated with transplantation. Funds raised can help with eligible transplant-related needs, including medical expenses as well as lodging, travel, and other necessary costs surrounding the transplant and recovery process.

After surgery, Lesa will also need significant support while she recovers. Having the resources to remain near her transplant team when necessary, receive appropriate care, attend follow-up appointments, and focus on healing instead of worrying about how these expenses will be paid can make an enormous difference.

For many of us, taking a deep breath is something we never have to think about.

For Lesa, breathing has become something she has to fight for every day.

A lung transplant represents more than a medical procedure. It represents hope.
