Hi, my name is Lily, I also go by “Poppy” because that’s what Mommy called me when I was in her belly.

I was born at 24 weeks and 5 days, when my mom got diagnosed with severe preeclampsia and doctors decided it would be safer to deliver as soon as possible.

I was doing so well for the first couple of days and then I contracted fungal meningitis, which most likely came from the central catheter they placed in the vein on my head to keep me alive. I almost lost my life but I am a fighter and fought so hard. Meningitis caused substantial damage to my brain and led to brain bleeds, which in turn caused a condition called hydrocephalus, where the cerebral spinal fluid in my brain doesn’t drain properly. I had many life-saving brain surgeries but I am still fighting and working so hard to get where I am today.

I spend a total of 133 days in the NICU and came home on oxygen. Unfortunately, my battle doesn’t end there. Due to all the assaults I had on my brain early on, I have been diagnosed with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, epilepsy, severe vision impairment and a slew of other diagnoses. Today, I still struggle with keeping my head up, I can only roll from my belly to my back and I am unable to sit up on my own, crawl or walk.

My mom spends a lot of time researching all the possible treatments to help me have the best quality of life possible. In the past year, I have attended various intensive therapies, stem cell treatment and have a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber at home in hopes of healing some of my brain damage. Unfortunately, any treatments outside of traditional PT/OT are all out of pocket and it’s becoming difficult for my parents to keep up with all these treatments financially.

I have come such a long way since the NICU but still have a lot of work to do to heal my brain.

My goal with this fundraiser to raise money for a Trexo Robotics, which are essentially robotic legs to help me walk! Trexo stimulates the whole body, getting the circulation going and engaging the core and back muscles as well as the lower body. It can positively impact the somatosensory system, associated with touch and tactile perception, helping generate sensory-motor feedback.

In addition, the Trexo can help with:
– Improved head and core control
– Developing body awareness and confidence
– Helping with feeding issues
– Helps to train and build muscle memory in a proper gait pattern

These robotic legs cost a hefty $36K over the course of 3 years. I was able to find a used pair, but the price of the used ones are still $29K. The breakdown of the costs will be 5K to transfer the device from the previous owners and 24K payments over the next 2 years. This is a great deal of money, but ultimately there are no stones that I will leave unturned when it comes to helping my little girl have the quality of life she deserves.
