Your Help Can Make the Difference!

Some of you may know me as Lillian Layton, others as Annie Reyes. Most of you know that I was born with a hereditary disease called polycystic kidney disease or PKD. Fifteen years ago I was told I would need a kidney transplant to survive. I was blessed by my sister’s selfless donation of her kidney and I am so very grateful for the years that gift has given me. Unfortunately, transplants don’t last forever.

Polycystic disease can invade any organ. In addition to my kidney now failing, I have been diagnosed with polycystic liver disease (PLD) as well. The doctors at the University of Miami have told me I need a double transplant, both a kidney and liver. Since August 2015, I’ve been undergoing dialysis treatments three times a week, several hours at a time. This is sustaining me for now.

I currently live in Fort Myers so making that 244 mile trip every three months to Miami is costly. Sometimes the tests I undergo are so rigorous and time consuming that I have to stay the night at a hotel. To drive would be too exhausting and dangerous. Once transplanted, both me and my caregiver are required to live close to the hospital anywhere from one to three months depending on my recovery time. I am single and disabled woman living on a strict budget, so this creates a financial challenge I cannot face alone. I am asking for the help of my loved ones: my family, my dear friends and beloved church brethren.
