Lora Swoape

In 2018, Lora found her world turned upside down when she was suddenly unable to move her body. After a lengthy and complicated evaluation process, Lora was diagnosed with Guillian-Barre Syndrome(GBS) – a rare autoimmune syndrome that affects the peripheral nervous system. Lora was paralyzed from the neck down for seven months. She spent 28 days in Hospital, then 89 days in a limited resourced facility before moving to Craig Rehabilitation Hospital —while there she spent several months relearning how to eat, brush her hair, get dressed and get into and use a wheelchair.

As Lora has been progressing, so has her desire to be out in the community, to connect with friends and family, and to live a full life. She is passionate about becoming independent and self-sufficient. She has found a renewed purpose to inspire those around her with www.clickyourhealscoaching.com. She has continued to overcome adversity and beat incredible odds, however the challenge of not being able to drive, keeps her very limited.

Over the last couple of years she has been steadily working on balance and mobility, and has gradually regained some movement and function. One of her big achievements was to be able to put her hair up in a ponytail, something most people would never think about. Bending over to pick up an empty Kleenex box, picking up 20 pounds and walking with a walker were other major milestones. She still struggles with holding a cell phone, typing on the computer, picking up the laptop, and making the bed. Writing or walking for any period of time still causes her to become fatigued. And through all of this, she still continues to find ways to stay positive and to be grateful.

Lora is reaching out for support to acquire an adaptive vehicle that would allow her to gain her independence. She is currently participating in a program that requires the vehicle to be under 40,000 miles and to be compatible with the necessary equipment that will need to be installed. Her dream vehicle is a Toyota 4Runner SR5 – Navy blue with a sunroof. Her goal is to raise $45,000 for the purchase and modification of her transportation.
