Hello to all of my friends and family! I have been very busy these last few months, trying to get listed for a kidney transplant! And now that I have been approved medically for the procedure, I need to raise funds as quickly as possible in order to be listed on the central / northern Florida transplant list. This money will only be used for medical expenses, copays, prescriptions, temporary housing, food, and gas to stay in Jacksonville for myself and my son, Phillip (who intends to be my donor, if he is a match).

I have started a fundraising campaign with HelpHopeLive.org. Tax deductible donations can be made to them in my name, and they pay my and my donors’ expenses during and after the kidney transplant. And I will not have to pay taxes on any of the donations, either! Did you know that a GoFundMe campaign charges twice as much in fees and not only do my friends and family have to pay income taxes on it all, but then I will have to accept the donations as income and would then be charged taxes as well! This way, 95% of every PRE-TAX dollar goes directly to my medical expenses. And can never be held against me as income that could jeopardize my medical coverage or income.

But there are so many other things that can help! Sharing my story with your friends and family, who may benefit from my story. Or maybe they will read my story and decide to become organ donors! Help me to bring awareness about kidney failure and dialysis to others. Who knows how many people we could all help!

Here is a bit of my story to start you off, but I am happy to answer questions about myself and this journey!

I have always put everyone else before myself. I raised four kids myself after my husband passed away in June of 1996. At that time, my oldest was 15 and my youngest was almost 2. I had to put my two youngest in daycare to rejoin the workplace, which was difficult. I was a substitute teacher for 11 years at Madison Middle School and Astronaut High School as a PCA (personal care assistant) for medically needy children in Brevard County schools, before becoming sick.

In March of 2016, I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma amyloidosis and bone marrow cancer. In August of 2017, I finally won my battle against cancer. Unfortunately, I now have total renal failure, and have been on hemodialysis for four hours a day, three days a week, ever since. In my first year of dialysis, I fought my way through the flu, shingles, and multiple bouts of pneumonia, all due to a weakened immune system. In November of 2017, I was getting my fistula worked on by a vascular surgeon, and suffered a complication in the form of a blood clot. I was in Holmes Regional Center hospital for 11 days until they managed to fix it.

I have now spent the last year getting test after test to try to get listed for this kidney transplant. Now fundraising! That brings us up to date for now. Come back to find out more as I go!
