Madeline Duffy

On November 25, 2016, our daughter, Madeline, suffered a severe spinal cord injury because of an auto accident. Currently she is paralyzed from the chest down, but has some movement in her arms and wrists. Madeline is now at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital receiving extensive rehabilitation therapy. She is gaining strength every day and is determined to make as much recovery as possible.

Madeline has always been active, adventurous and resilient. She plays soccer, hikes with her dogs, and rides her dirt bike around the backyard. She is a talented artist and participates with her aunt in activities for the Special Olympics of Delaware. Madeline is looking forward to completing her senior year at Rustin High, going to college and living a full, productive, and independent life.

As you can imagine, we are now facing daunting expenses related to Madeline’s injury. Even with insurance there are many expenses that must be paid out of pocket. Our immediate concern is the home modifications that will need to be made to accommodate Madeline and wheelchair accessible transportation. In addition, she will require specialized adaptive equipment, ongoing rehabilitation therapy and full time care.

To help with the financial burden of Maddie’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years.
