MAHLON NEEDS YOUR HELP

I am writing this letter on behalf of my husband Mahlon Beers, Jr. who is in need of a double lung transplant. Thirty years ago, he was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He is now in stage four lung disease and is on oxygen 24/7. Mahlon has also been diagnosed with a rare liver disease, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency in 2012. He has been hospitalized several times for lung infections and pneumonia. At his last visit with his pulmonologist he was informed that nothing could be done for his breathing problems and that he was a candidate for a double lung transplant. This is the only thing left that they can do for him. Mahlon was evaluated at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina. The financial coordinator suggested that Mahlon fundraise for the many pre-and post-transplant related expenses that are not covered by insurance.

To help with these uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in Mahlon’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
