Our mom, Mari, is a hard working, selfless and caring woman who, through no fault of her own, is in need of a life saving kidney transplant. After being on medication for years (necessary at the time) that damaged her kidneys beyond repair, she now looks to her friends, family, and surrounding communities to help her during what should be some of the most special times of her life. We will soon be ready to start families of our own and she so very badly hopes to enjoy the treasures of becoming a grandmother! We cannot imagine not having her in our lives to experience all the joys that are just getting ready to begin. She has looked forward to this time for her whole life.

Mari is a long time employee of Depetrillo’s Pizza and Bakery in Coventry, Rhode Island and has worked (and continues to work) a very physical job; cooking, cleaning and serving the members of her community for over 12 years! She is the smiling face that many of her community members see on a weekly basis!

No one should have to worry about how they will afford to pay for a kidney transplant (i.e. uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation, bills, food, etc) not to mention the added stress or worry about everything else it brings. She is constantly exhausted (mentally, physically and emotionally) because her kidneys are currently only working at 15-20%. Some days are harder to get through than others. It takes everything that she has in her to ensure she remains healthy and ready to tackle this bump in the road, just as she has every other obstacle in life.

Over 100,000 people are currently waiting alongside our mom for a deceased donor kidney. Though she is on the transplant list, she could wait nearly 5+ years for a donor. A living donor would mean so much more than a kidney transplant to our mom. It would give her YEARS of enjoyment with her family and friends, likely provide a better result, rid her of the overbearing uncertainty that she lives with day after day, and give her the quality of life that she will not be able to experience on a transplant list or dialysis.

Now it is a time to focus on healing.
