LuLu Wants a Chance at Life

Maria Martinez is a 48-year-old wife, mother, and grandmother who desperately needs our help. After years of struggling with her kidneys, the time for a kidney transplant has come.

Maria, better known as LuLu, is an active member at St. Francis Church who enjoys spending time with her friends and family. However, kidney disease has significantly impacted her lifestyle and activities. In October 2016, she was formally diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). FSGS is a rare disease that attacks the kidneys filtering units causing serious scarring which leads to permanent kidney damage and even failure. The Martinez family is committed to seeing her through the transplant process, but this presents a challenge they cannot meet alone.

As you can imagine, transplantation is life-saving, but financially draining. LuLu is facing significant out-of-pocket expenses related to this procedure. For example, she will need to take up to 30 pills a day as a necessity to keep the new kidney alive. This is where your assistance is needed.

To help with the financial burden of LuLu’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Central Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant related expenses only.
