Martin Needs Our Help!

Martin Gradias has multiple sclerosis, a severe and progressive disease of the nervous system that affects the brain and spinal cord. He needs your help to get a promising new treatment.

Since Martin’s diagnosis in 2014, his health has declined and he experiences severe neuropathy, loss of balance, painful burning and stabbing sensations, severe fatigue and overall lack of energy. Martin often wonders if tomorrow will be the day that he wakes up paralyzed or blind. Some days are better for him, but despite his challenges Martin still gets up every morning and goes to work for the postal service and is also working towards his college degree, where he maintains a 3.4 GPA.

MS has been very unforgiving for Martin and we need to halt the progression of the disease before he is left permanently in wheelchair. Through extensive research, we have found a promising treatment called Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) which involves killing off Martin’s diseased cells with chemotherapy and then rebooting his immune system with a stem cell transplant. If successful, Martin will get a chance to live an active life and run and play with his three daughters and one day walk them down the aisle.

Funding the HSCT procedure comes with a hefty price tag. With the cost of medical bills, airfare, food, lodging (he could be in Chicago up to 9 weeks if everything goes well), this will be a financial burden on our family of five. We are asking for help to raise money so my husband will live the life he was intended to live.
