Mary Jean Needs Help and Hope

Mary Jean is a 60-year-old woman who is very ill. After years of several health issues she was diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). A liver transplant is her only hope for survival. She is now on the donor list and waiting and praying for a match. Mary Jean is a very giving person and now she needs your help. The cost of a transplant will be overwhelming and even with insurance she cannot do it alone. She needs help.

Mary Jean grew up in Northern Virginia and graduated from Loudoun Valley High School in 1975. She went on to marry her high school sweetheart and they had two sons. She was a stay-at-home Mom until both boys were in school. At that time, she decided to work outside the home taking several different jobs before accepting an in-service position for an elderly gentleman whom she worked for until his death after 20 years. She loved that job and decided to take a nursing course that led to a job as a CNA with Hospice of Northern Virginia. She found her purpose in life, caring for others. Mary Jean worked there for almost six years until her health issues prevented her continuing. At the same time, her husband of 33 years was diagnosed with kidney cancer. She was able to care for him until he lost his battle one year later.

Now she faces her own health battle. A liver transplant is her only hope for a healthy future. Though transplantation is lifesaving it will be financially draining for her.

She just celebrated her 60th birthday and has been fighting all the side effects that come with liver failure for a few yrs now. She has lost a lot of weight, stays extremely tired everyday and sleeps a lot. She is now at the point where she needs help to keep up with her medications, paying bills, getting to appointments and keeping up with house hold chores. There are days when she needs someone there with her because she is so light-headed and unsteady on her feet. She just wants to be able to get back to living her life and not just getting by day to day.

To help with the financial burden of Mary Jean’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than thirty years.
