LIFE COMES FULL CIRCLE

On October 16, 2022, Maureen experienced a traumatic spinal cord injury. After surgery, ICU and now a rehabilitation hospital with intensive rehabilitation, Maureen is gaining mobility every day but still needs additional rehabilitation therapy to continue her progress.

Maureen, a nurse recently retired to Bethlehem, PA, worked in a rehabilitation hospital and taught nursing students in Philadelphia, PA for over 20 years of her professional career. After a lifetime of helping others, Maureen needs help now, never imagining her life would come full circle and she would have a Spinal Cord Injury. Currently, some of her former students are now the nurses caring for her in the rehabilitation hospital.

As you might imagine, even with insurance, Maureen has numerous financial expenses, such as medical equipment, caregivers, home modifications and most important, intensive rehabilitation therapy to continue her progress. She is an incredibly hard working patient, knows what needs to be done, and needs the financial help to make it happen.

The first year of rehabilitation, following a catastrophic spinal cord injury, is crucial in regaining mobility in her hands and legs. This rehabilitation will allow Maureen to feed herself and be more mobile. The intensive therapy sessions that she requires are $250/day, and it is recommended that she have therapy 2-3 times/week. At a cost of $250/day X 3 sessions/week X 52 weeks = $39,000. Maureen and her family are covering her current living and rehabilitation expenses and will continue to do this, however there is not enough money to sustain this recovery process for the next year.
